Last Saturday, Richard was conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Choral Society in the Proms in the Park, the final celebration of the 2014 BBC Promenade season. The weather was kind, the wine was flowing and the concert programme included a typically eclectic BBC Radio 2 range of classical and popular music, with a flavour for just about everyone. From opera stars Pumeza Matshikiza and Vittorio Grigolo to American singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright and pop legends Earth Wind & Fire. The event is a huge undertaking with 50,000 spectators, but all left the arena happy and content if exhausted, after nearly six hours of singing and dancing. However, for Richard, the day had begun at 9am with an orchestra rehearsal, such are the demands for a busy orchestral conductor. And he wouldn’t have it any other way
