The French Connection

Music and Song inspired by our neighbours from across the English Channel

France has always been synonymous with romance, sophistication and 'belle élégance'. THE FRENCH CONNECTION celebrates the style and influence of popular French music, from the cabaret to the can-can, from cinema to the biggest selling musical of all-time.

The programme includes songs from wartime French chanteuse Edith Piaf (JE NE REGRETTE RIEN, LA VIE EN ROSE), the master of the modern chanson Jacques Brel (JACKIE).  Hollywood's discovery of Paris with George Gershwin's AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, Cole Porter's CAN CAN (I LOVE PARIS, LET'S DO IT), Lerner & Loewe's GIGI (THE NIGHT THEY INVENTED CHAMPAGNE, GIGI).  French composers and performers from the 20th century include Michel Legrand (WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND, I WILL WAIT FOR YOU, HOW DO YOU KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING? THE SUMMER OF '42), Charles Aznavour (SHE).  As well as Broadway musicals: the glamour of gay Paree in Jerry Herman's LA CAGE AUX FOLLES and its classic literature, Victor Hugo's LES MISÉRABLES in Boublil & Schonberg's epic stage and film adaptation.
