At the end of this month, we are returning to the Proms at Snape Maltings, this time with our 60’s concert – Symphonic 60’s, with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. In 2013, we made our GRB Concerts debut with our Burt Bacharach programme, and a packed house sang along to all the classic Bacharach hits. We are very much hoping our audience will be in similar voice this year, and ready to dance and sing again. Especially the promenaders, sitting on their cushions!
However, our concert this year will be marked with sadness due to the untimely death of Cilla Black. As one of our most successful 60’s icons, our programme naturally features two of her biggest recording successes, but we think it appropriate on this occasion to add another Cilla song and celebrate a trio of her chart topping hits. As a scouser myself, I am only too aware of the legacy Cilla has left us, not only as a highly successful pop star, but throughout the 70’s and beyond as one of our biggest TV stars. I have to admit to once being a guest on Surprise Surprise, and a day in the studio with Cilla was a day never to be forgotten! GB
